Life Transformation

Setbacks and your spiritual self-healing journey

There have been times when I have questioned if my self-healing is working or why I am having all these setbacks while it feels like others are sailing smoothly. That has made me talk to people and search the internet for stories of others going through similar journeys and experiencing setbacks.

Even if your journey looks different from others, let’s make it clear: everyone will have setbacks during the spiritual healing journey. I know how challenging and frustrating it is to take steps back rather than forward during your process, and that’s why I am writing this post because I realized that, just like me, you might feel very lonely during the self-healing process and feel you are the only one having setbacks. In this post, I will talk about three ‘normal’ setbacks during the spiritual healing journey that everyone will experience.

1. The Spiritual self-healing journey is a spiral-like roller coaster ride

Your life is a circle – or more a spiral with many circles that symbolize infinity. That means your spiritual self-healing journey is not linear but spiral-like energy. The further you go with your self-healing process, transform the layers of yourself and let your fears go, the higher your frequency gets. You start moving up with that spiral-like energy. You will still encounter many of the same life lessons, but your perspective changes if you have been walking your self-healing journey and transformed aspects of that fear. You choose differently. So that same lesson becomes lighter and eventually vanishes from your reality. The process is certainly not only smooth sailing.

So what is this to do with setbacks? If you see the journey linear, you expect things you have “worked on” will not return. And once they do (which usually happens due to the spiral-like energy), you feel like you have returned to square one and can even lose hope because your work only brought you back to where you started.

So whenever you feel your self-healing work is not delivering results and that you are where you started, remind yourself of this spiral-like energy and choose differently.

"The process is certainly not only smooth sailing."

2. This, too, shall pass away - random things come to the surface

I am not a doctor or a medical professional, so what I am about to say is ONLY based on my own experience and not a piece of advice: For the past 2.5 years, I have been healing my periods and my digestion. And the amount of random symptoms out of nowhere that have appeared during this healing process is crazy! Also, I never knew the journey would be as long as it has been. And I never was expecting to have these random symptoms appearing. I have questioned many times if I am following the right path. Still, I have also learned that my body is detoxing the toxins out layer by layer – and all of the random symptoms that came suddenly also disappear as fast as they appeared.

The same goes for healing my soul & mind. The further I walk my path, the more random things from the past appear in my mind and energy. Things such as difficult emotions, random words from the past, challenging memories hiding in my unconscious mind, forgotten childhood experiences, and so on. They appear out of nowhere to be transformed as quickly as they surfaced.

“This, too, shall pass away” has been my mantra for years already.

3. You become more invisible and enter the cocoon

This is not a setback, but definitely feels like one! As it can be challenging to accept that you enter a stage called the cocoon when you are deep in your spiritual self-healing journey. During this stage, the butterfly transforms and changes its shape in the cocoon, just like you. You turn inwards and become more invisible. And that is okay, it is normal, and you can – and should – take that space to focus on yourself and distance yourself from people and things that are not resonating with you.

It can feel very lonely, so hiring a coach, healer, or therapist who will support your transformation would be good. And do know that this is just a phase. You will come out of the cocoon as a newborn, beautiful butterfly.
