Scandinavian Style Home Decor Sample Board

As an assignment during my interior design studies at the Interior Design Institute, I was asked to follow a design brief, digitally draw a floor plan from scratch, and then create a furniture and accessories sample board for four of the rooms. Here is the created floor plan and the decor plans for each of the rooms:

Sample board 1. Living room

The living room is used for daily living but is also where friends are entertained. So, the style is less relaxed and more official than in the TV & games room. The focal point in this room is the scenery that opens from the windows, and right after that, your eye catches the gorgeous coffee table on the white rug and the turquoise statement chair. The chair’s color connects it with the nearby TV & Games room walls. The beige/orange sofa pops up nicely from the dark blue walls, making the room more earthy, together with the coffee table. The white linen curtains bring lightness to the room. The Scandi vibe is brought in with small accessories.

Sample board 2. Dining room

The dining room decor is mainly Scandinavian in style. Again, the focal point is the window behind the table. However, the pendant light from Louis Poulsen does catch your eye quickly. The familiar darker blue color is added with the table lamp, and the stunning dining room design chairs are a fantastic contrast to the timeless dining table. The rug under the table has a small pattern that connects it with the other rooms, and the cabinet has an interesting element of stone in the front that connects it with the living room sofa table.

Sample Board 3. TV & Games room

The same colors continue in the TV & Games room, but here, the walls have turquoise and white stripe wallpaper. The patterns in the decor pieces are kept more minimal in this room due to the wallpaper, the rug, and the floor already having different patterns. The vibe of this room is more relaxed, which can already be seen in how comfy the sofa looks. The focal point is the window(s); after that, your eye spots the round coffee table and attractive white cabinet. When the TV is not on, it showcases black-and-white pictures like art on your wall. Again, the Scandi design is added with smaller accessories and the floor lamp, which feels similar to the pendant lamp in the dining room.

Sample Board 4. Office

The office is the smallest room with only one window, so there is more space to hang art on the wall than in the other rooms, where the windows take up lots of space. As the walls are turquoise here, the lightness of this room is created with a white rug, curtains, office chair, and a light wood-colored table and bookshelf. The white carpet carries the long stripes connecting it with the walls in the TV & Games room. The darker blue, comfy armchair is for moments of relaxation, and the orange/beige side table immediately catches your eye against the walls. This side table is the same series as the TV & Games room coffee table. The organic pattern of the wall art connects this room with the living room coffee table and the dining room cabinet.
