A Soulful Walk: Try This Simple Self-Connection Practice

Recently, a simple daily walk in nature has been the most spiritually transformative self-connection practice I’ve embraced to connect with myself. This mindful walk has significantly impacted my life, prompting me to share its profound benefits in this blog post and guide you through the same experience.

My journey of finding deeper self-connection

I have been on a profound self-realization and healing journey for a few years. Like all journeys, mine has had different phases and levels. This year, I have focussed on a deep-rooted feeling of sometimes feeling not good enough, manifesting as people-pleasing tendencies, not always been able to draw boundaries, pushing myself to do more, overworking, and a reluctance to be visible. When this mindset is triggered within me, I have disconnected with myself and not been fully present. The further I have walked on my healing path: healed my trauma (from the levels of body, mind and soul), updated my thought patterns and beliefs, nurtured my nervous system, cleansed my body, and focussed on doing sports that fit my cycle, the more presence I have found in myself.

This deep presence shows up increasingly in my everyday life, for example, at work or in my close relationships. It feels safe, nurturing, and loving to be authentically me in different situations. I never knew life could feel this way: fully present and connected.

But I also have moments when I drop back into overworking mode; I push myself to deliver and do more. I have moments when I am scared to draw boundaries. I forget myself, focus on others, and unconsciously start to please them. During those moments, my body does not feel good, and I feel like I am not present with myself – I am disconnected. My nervous system is overactive.

Whether disconnected or connected, I still keep showing up to this practice of soulful walk with myself.

The benefits of this simple self-connection practice

I started these walks when my spiritual coach told me I had to do an energy reset to align my body, mind and soul. She asked me to connect with myself more and spend time being rather than doing. So, I stepped back from everything and spent 10 days alone at home (somehow, the Universe had cleared my schedule so I could do this). I did nothing but spend time being with myself doing simple, everyday things – such as going for a daily walk in nature. Whether disconnected or connected, I kept showing up to this daily walk, my self-connection practice during those 10 days.

I now call the walk a soulful walk with myself. And I still do those walks almost daily, because…

– It deepens my connection with myself.

– It brings me back to my authentic self: true nature.

– It calms me down and helps me relax. That stops me from overworking, over-delivering, pleasing others, etc.

– I usually go through a small healing cycle during those walks as I am deeply present with whatever comes up. At the end of the walks, new insights appear in my mind.

How to do the soulful walk with yourself

To embark your self-connection practice – a soulful walk with yourself, follow these simple steps:

1. Walk alone. Leave your spouse, kids, friends, dogs, or cats at home.

2. Embrace silence – no podcasts, phone calls, or music.

3. Do the walk in nature rather than the city center to tap into the healing frequencies of Mother Earth.

4. If possible, set no time limit; let the walk unfold naturally.

5. Go for your walk whether it rains or shines. Rain can feel wonderful on your skin and help you connect with yourself

Mindful practice during the walk:

As you walk, visualize a loving, radiant white light orb before you. Imagine bringing that light into your heart and soul. You don’t need to know what your soul looks like or where it is “located.” You can still guide it there. Allow it to descend towards your solar plexus or sacral chakra.

Feel the grounding and how your energy is heavier in a good way! Your walking speed might become slower – and that’s the purpose. Notice the clarity in your mind as you detach from its direction, connecting instead with your heart and soul.

Feel and acknowledge any thoughts, emotions, or sensations. Direct them to your heart. Allow them to be nurtured in your heart and soul. If needed, seek support from your spiritual allies: angels, spirit guides, goddesses. Your main task is to remain present with yourself, redirecting focus whenever the mind intrudes. Once you do this, you give yourself space to experience new insights.

Once the walk is over, take a moment to feel the difference it made on your day and take this feeling with you for the rest of the day.

Look within your heart & soul

Listen to your intuition – does it call you to try this practice as well?

If you cannot do the daily walk – what about you do a weekly walk?
